Senior citizens in Louisburg now have another option in housing. Wea Creek Apartments, 888 Autumn Place, opened for residents in October, and the complex’s owner, Topeka, Kan.-based Commercial Group, says there’s plenty of room for more residents. “Commercial Group always looks at small, rural communities,” said Jennifer Persing, spokesperson for the company. Commercial group exclusively builds senior housing properties such as Wea Creek. With the opening of the complex, Persing said Commercial Group hired Jim Henderson to manage the property. “I’ll be showing and renting apartments and making sure (the property) is maintained,” Henderson said. Relocating from Spring Hill to Louisburg, Henderson is among the tenants who have recently moved into Wea Creek. “I just moved in,” Henderson said. “There’s 17 of us, counting me. And the rest are all ladies.” Of the 48 one- and two-bedroom units in the complex, 31 are still available, and each unit comes equipped with a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, washer and dryer. One-bedroom units are 760 square feet, and two-bedroom units are 985 square feet. “They’re really nice,” Henderson said. Also available to residents is a club house with television, fully-equipped kitchen and activity room with a treadmill, and it will soon have a computer with Internet access, Henderson said. One benefit to living at Wea Creek, Henderson said, is the maintenance crews. “(Crews) were here at 3 this morning. I looked out the window, and there they were,” Henderson said Monday after Louisburg received snowfall the night before. Wea Creek is available to seniors 55 and older, and the complex does have income guidelines. Until all the units are rented, Henderson said he will keep office hours from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Anyone interested in the community can call 837-3138.
