Members of the community stood strong together to support Granny’s School House owner Sondra Gilmore in October when she went head to head with the city over a Statue of Liberty that was planned to top a sign she was having erected in front of her preschool and child care center.

Several television news stations and local bloggers followed the tussle, which at one point had the city threatening to arrest the contractor if the sign was erected.

Gilmore had planned to erect the 7-foot-3-inch tall statue on top of her 5-foot tall sign, but the city denied her a sign permit to do so.

Though Gilmore and the city had several weeks of correspondence, Gilmore and the city remain unable to reach an agreement amenable to both parties. Today, the sign is erected, but the statue does not accompany it.
