Homer Shineman, 90, Paola, died Dec. 28, 2008, at Kansas City Hospice House. His hobbies were traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and working with his hands in woodworking. He never met a stranger and was always very accommodating. Preceding him in death were his wife, Hilda, and a sister, Mary Jo Coats. Survivors are his children, Jerry Shineman of Granbury, Texas, Bonnie Morris of Kansas City, Mo., and Gloria Garrett of Overland Park; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Forst of Tecumseh, Kan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071, (913) 294-2372. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church, 401 E. Piankishaw St., Paola. Burial will follow at Paola Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church endowment fund.
