We hope the traffic light on West Amity Street across from Price Chopper will come to fruition in 2009. The project has been nearly a decade in the making and has involved numerous city officials.

Louisburg city, school and chamber officials, county officials and our state lawmakers have lobbied the Kansas Department of Transportation about the need for a traffic light on West Amity Street near the congested and potentially dangerous intersection in front of the grocery store and across from the McDonald’s and Phillips 66 station.

Probably every driver in town at some point can relate tales of near traffic mishaps at that intersection, or an actual collision.

City officials are to be commended for not letting this project fade away.

In this difficult economic time, it’s encouraging to see the stoplight and road work on Amity Street remain on the city’s list of goals for 2009.

This light could potentially save lives as it directs the flow of traffic on Amity in a smoother fashion.

The project is long overdue.
