No drunken driving incidents were reported over New Year’s Eve in Louisburg this year, leading the Louisburg Police Department to believe advance warning of increased patrols led citizens to make smarter choices when getting behind the wheel.

“Word got out we were going to beef up patrol,” said Sgt. Bill Smith. “... The idea is getting word out. There were no traffic incidents, which was excellent.”
Smith said two other incidents were reported, however.

The police department responded to a call on New Year’s Day of a wrecked vehicle with a person inside, south of Louisburg. Smith said the accident occurred sometime overnight, and a citizen reported the vehicle the next morning.

Smith said a Chevrolet Trailblazer was stolen and recovered on New Year’s Day.
