Ben Coffey, a 1998 graduate of Louisburg High School, has been named executive director of the El Dorado YMCA in El Dorado, Kan.

Coffey, who will begin his duties Feb. 2, returns for his second stint in El Dorado, where he started his career as a personal trainer.

Coffey comes to El Dorado after serving as health and wellness director of the YMCA in Oconomowoc, Wis., since 2006. Before that, he directed the sports and fitness programs at the Salt Fork YMCA in Marshall, Mo.

“I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the El Dorado community and continuing to raise the bar of quality and excellence at the El Dorado branch,” Coffey said in a news release.

As executive director, Coffey will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations at the El Dorado YMCA. Search committee members said Coffey’s enthusiasm for promoting health and wellness fits well with the mission of the YMCA.

“He understands the importance of coaching both YMCA staff and volunteers to ensure that each day is focused on providing quality service and assistance to the entire community,” said Rob Nelson, advisory board chairman.

Coffey is the son of John and Carol Coffey of Louisburg.
