Conoco Food Mart, 1500 W. Amity St., Louisburg, was closed for business Wednesday afternoon after the Louisburg Police Department, in cooperation with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant.

Undersheriff Mark Schmidt said the search warrant was executed at about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, after the sheriff’s office and Louisburg Police Department received complaints from several sources that the business was selling drug paraphernalia.

“We’ve been investigating this for a little while,” Schmidt said.

Schmidt said the search warrant was conducted because under Kansas statues, “convenience stores cannot sell certain types of materials.”

The statute states that no person sell drug paraphernalia to store, ingest, plant, manufacture, prepare, pack, sell or distribute a controlled substance.

The search took about two hours to complete and a quantity of items was seized during the search, according to a news release from the Sheriff's office. The clerk on duty at the time was questioned and released, the news release said.

Police Chief Ron Anderson said the Louisburg Police Department has received complaints in the past about drug paraphernalia at the business.

“We told them to get rid of the stuff,” Anderson said.

Anderson said the department hadn’t had a similar complaint in the last seven months.

The investigation will be forwarded to the Miami County Attorney's Office.
