It took four games, but the Louisburg seventh-grade boys’ basketball team finally got it done.

The Wildcats, which saw wins slip out of their grasps in the first three games, put it all together for a 27-21 victory over Gardner-Wheatridge on Thursday at Louisburg Middle School.

Louisburg took a 15-9 halftime lead and it was all it needed as both teams were even in the second half. The Wildcats also had balanced scoring in the process.

Luke Hupp, Will Garza, Wyatt Sander and D.J. Meyer each scored six points to lead the Wildcats. Levi Mathews added two points and Jack Niebaum finished with one point.

While the seventh-grade “A” team picked up its first win, the “B” team continued its perfect season with a 33-21 win over Wheatridge and are 2-0 to start the year.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 18-9 lead and never looked back. Tyler Reno led the “B” squad with 10 points and Mathews added nine points in the win.

Jack Niebrugge, Jacob Arbuckle and Niebaum finished with four points and Simeon Bowman added two points.

Both seventh-grade teams have two games this week and traveled to Anderson County Tuesday, before returning to the road Thursday against Baldwin. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
