Louisburg City Council members Monday night reaffirmed their decision not to alter the rate structure for use of the ball fields at Lewis-Young Park. City Administrator Jeff Cantrell told council members the rate structure implemented in spring 2007 doesn’t cover the $133,112 the city spent on funding park operations, the majority of which was spent at Lewis-Young Park. Previously, members of the Louisburg Area Recreation Association requested the city lower its fees for the group, but council members indicated Monday night that because the fees are not covering the cost to use the fields, the current rate structure was more than fair. Cantrell said he looked into structures other cities use to charge for ball field use, and many cities have similar problems. “I don’t think it’s ever going to be a perfect design,” Cantrell said.
