Louisburg’s Broadmoor Elementary School principal Deborah Blancarte is set to appear in Miami County District Court next month on felony drug charges.

Blancarte is charged with possessing the pain killer hydrocodone and attempting to possess the drug between Aug. 1 and Oct. 1, 2008. Blancarte allegedly attempted to unlawfully refill a hydrocodone prescription but failed, according to court documents.

Both drug charges, which were filed Dec. 1, are punishable by 10 to 42 months in a state prison and a fine not to exceed $100,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 3 at the Miami County Courthouse.

Several school officials have been subpoenaed to appear, including Anita Cook, BES office secretary; Chuck Bond, school resource officer; and Michele Simmons, Blancarte’s secretary.

Louisburg USD 416 Superintendent Rick Doll said Friday he could not comment on the case because it is a personnel issue.

i totally agree..innocent until proven guilty. I can only hope that this was all a misunderstand. I just want to know the school boards thinking on keeping her in the school. She is looked up to by so many children. She is their role model. If this was a teacher accused of something illegal would they be allowed to stay in the classroom for months until their trial? What about the safety of the students if this proves to be true. I think Mr.Doll needs to do some damage control. Parents should not of found out about this on this newspaper site.

Dr. Doll and the Board of Education are responsible for the safety of the children in USD 416 School District. Ms. Blancarte should be put on administrative leave (paid or unpaid) until this is all resolved.

The School Board is ultimately responsible for pushing this under the rug. Perhaps the school board should be held to a higher standard as well. We need to contact our school board members and let them know that the way they have handled this situation is not okay. They need to not do what is easier, but instead they need to do what is in the best interest of our children. Place Ms. Blancarte on leave until this is all resolved and stop ignoring what is going on.

I think that we shouldn't be judging Ms. Blancarte. No one knows the whole story and we shouldn't judge without it. We need to remember that there are other people's feelings involved in this mess. She has children, who hear all the judgement people are making and it hurts them just are much as it hurts her. We have all made mistakes, and we need to remember that.

I think that everybody has only heard one side of the story. You are all assuming what you want and that is wrong. There is no evidence supporting the fact that she has ever used the drugs and I am sure everybody's stories are twisted. The reason this was kept "under the rug" was because it doesn't concern anyone but Mrs. Blancarte and whomever provided her with the painkillers. She is not a user or abuser and it was better that the children didn't know. Mrs. Blancarte is one of the best principals that Louisburg has had. She cares about the students and always puts them first no matter what. She still is a role model. She will of course have to be put on suspension, but how people treat Mrs. Blancarte should not change. She is a great principal and goes through a lot to make sure she does her job to the best of her ability. So everyone who doesn't know the story stop judging, hear Mrs. Blancarte's side and then form your narcissisitic opinions.

To all the concerned citizens of Louisburg:

She is still there because she is an excellent principal. Innocent until proven guilty!!! Plus, you can contact Dr. Doll and the Board of Education all you wish. They will tell you the same... they can not comment on the situation and nothing can technically happen until her preliminary hearing on Feb. 3rd. Wait until Tuesday... then contact the school board representatives with your thoughts and concerns for the children’s safety! Sure would hate to see a respected citizen in Louisburg be accused for Slander. Until then... bite your tongue!

I think everyone is doing a good job of keeping an open mind. A few people stated hoping this is a misunderstanding. We all hope for that for everyone's sake. I don't think anyone here is being judgmental. We just want out children safe...and to keep them that way she should be put on leave until this is cleared up. No matter what the truth is.

I have one comment...if this was a student, what would have happened to them? I'm betting they would not be in school as if nothing happened. In fact, I know they wouldn't. The issue is not whether she is an excellent principal, the issue is she is charged with a felony...yes, key word is charged and not convicted. She should be placed on leave until it is straightened out...the kids in that school come first.

I have to agree with the person above. If this was a student, there would be no waiting to determine if it was all a misunderstanding or not, the student would have been suspended for it. I know this also for a fact as I have been witness to it being done. She should have been placed on paid administrative leave stating per the outcome of the hearing. What's so bad about that~ Protect the children - give her a paycheck until the facts could come out. I am a mother of four and I find this to be completely wrong. I see Louisburg school district has not changed much since I was there. Protect your own, and let the children suffer! Way to go 416!

Innocent until proven guilty. That means there should not be a lynch mob just because of gossip or accusations. No need for the Salem witch hunts in this town. How about some kindness and support for the principal until the facts are known, and even after the facts are known. She is a good principal and so far that is all we, the parents of Louisburg know for sure.

A lynch mob? Is anyone asking that she be fired? No...not at all. All that is being asked is that she is removed (with pay even) until this issue is resolved. The only reason she should be removed is because of the charges against her...not because of any gossip or accusations.

It's really sad that we are worried about Ms. Blancarte's feelings over our kids. I don't know about the rest of the parent's in Louisburg, but my children are my first priority and them being put in the situation they are is not right. I am very upset that this is continuing to be treated as not a big deal. THIS is a very big deal...the kids in that school...8 years old to 11 years old are very impressionable...they see a role model figure being charged with felony drug charges and everyone is acting like it's ok. Unbelieveable!!

Our children should be our first concern. The fact is that Blancarte has been charged with a felony. That means that there was probable cause to charge her. She should be suspended. that's what would happen if it was one of our children.

The school board wants high school kids to take drug tests and they allow drug dogs in the school to keep drugs out. So the message they are sending is Do as I say, not as I do.

As a student in the Louisburg School District, I can't help but wonder what would happen if I was in Ms. Blancarte's situation. I doubt anyone would think twice about suspending me...Regardless of whether I was "charged" or "convicted" of drug possession. I'm shocked that our school district has not put her on some sort of leave yet.

She's been charged with two drug charges - TWO FELONY CHARGES! That she is allowed to remain in her position is ludicrous! Now it appears she is undergoing "plea negotiations". If it were me, and I was innocent, I would fight with every penny and bit of energy I had to clear my name. I certainly wouldn't entertain ANY plea arrangement.

As a former student of 416 I have to say I was in a similar circumstance. I was mistakingly charged with something and was immediately suspended from school pending the outcome of my trial. It had nothing to do with gossip or how I was a straight A student. It happened because a school should never allow someone to stay that could be a potential risk to the students. I was found innocent and allowed to return to school with the schools apology. I'm not saying she's innocent or guilty. But she is a potential risk to the children since she has been charged with two felonies. Give her a paycheck and send her home until it is all straightened out. I will personally apologize to her and her family if this turns out to be a misunderstanding. But I know for a fact that my child will not be attending that school until this is all cleared up.

Please keep your students in school. Teachers and other staff at the school are caring individuals and would not let anyone or anything harm your student. The majority of your student's day is spent in the classroom with the teacher(s) and paraprofessionals. How often does your student actually interact personally with the principal? Why is there a need to keep students out of school? What are you accomplishing by keeping your student home? Kinda silly keeping your student from friends and learning, particularly with important state exams approaching. Is this really the best way to "protest" the situation?

One of the best principals Louisburg has ever had????? NO, that is not true. No one is passing judgment, she has been arrested for a FELONY. Her feelings are not the issue here, the safety of our students is the issue here. Not to mention that USD 416 has high school athletes sign a letter stating that they will be drug free and if they are not, there are significant consequences. What have been her consequences? NONE. The School Board needs to become the leaders they are supposed to be and put Ms. Blancarte on administrative leave. This is not idol gossip, Ms. Blancarte has been arrested....KEEP THAT IN MINE......NOT GOSSIP. She has been ARRESTED OF COMMITTING A FELONY!!! I hardly call that idol gossip. Gossip, meaning we do not know the details of her supposed crime. I would like to know exactly what the charges are and the circumstances surrounding them. I've searched the news and can't find concrete facts. What if she is innocent? Anyone can be accused, many falsely. I haven't seen the facts in this case and don't think it's fair someone loose their position and reputation without a stronger case or at least knowing what the details are of her accusations. Are our children at risk until a trial? No. I don't think so. Keep in mind many parents drink and party every weekend in front of their children. I find this a crime, but no one is jailed for it. Be patient, find out the facts before making a judgment. In that way, we teach our children to temper their impulses to jump to conclusions and do some fact finding. The school board and the principal do owe us, the parents an explanation and some details. Then, we can make educated, informed judgments.

First, People are foolish to allow the Elected School Board to protect this employee. For you "do gooders" that dont have a clue what Blancarte is being charged with Officially, which is public imformation available to anyone at the court house is a Schedule 2 Narcotic's Felony which is the same class of drugs as Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and PCP to name a few. Hydrocodone, by definition is a dangerous drug, just as dangerous as any street narcotic and is commonly referred to as synthetic Herion.

I was told by Jimmy Allen "I feel your pain". He will not take responsibility for this situation! My child is not in danger! WHAT A CROCK! Dangerous Drug Felony! Times TWO! Like it or Love it, when you take your child to school, your in her hands! I DONT THINK SO! My children and several other's will not be attending school, to be placed in danger because the spinless school board is affraid to take action. Any professional facing these charges would be imediately suspended pending outcome of the trail.

For the Board members that wont answer their phones, you ought to be ashamed for taking your position on the board. Sweeping this under the rug for months, Now what are you all gonna do???

The Citizens of Louisburg will hold the School Board accountable for this. I can't imagine how anyone can justify the Leader of Broadmoor Elementry allowed to return to work under these circumstances.

To the person voicing concern that some parents drink in front of thier children and are not arrested for it, allow me to make the simple observation that the reason for that is it is not a felony. There is no defense of this person continuing in the position of authority which this community has placed her in. After talking to Jimmy Allen I was told that it is a "misundrstanding" and "it's not like we are talking about Cocain and Herion". Wrong.... It is... Look it up. He told me that no one is in danger. How can he be sure. We need to start acted like adults and quit turning a blind eye. If one of student athletes were caught with drugs do you think that they would be allow to play. No, they would probably expelled also. The administration would say that they want to send a message. Well what kind of a message are we sending now..... Do as I say not as I do.

I write this with a very heavy heart. How do you answer your child when they come up and say...my principal does drugs. I explained that she was charged but not convicted...that she still has a hearing to go thru...but when we strive to teach our children not to do drugs and then they hear this, it sends such mixed signals. I am at a loss...I am so very disappointed in our superintendent and school board...but most in Ms Blancarte, if she cared about the kids, she would request to take a leave until the issue is taken care of.

I do have to say that I don't have a child in the school district yet, but I graduated from Louisburg. Louisburg has a good reputation and this has ruined it, even if this has all just been a misunderstanding. I personally feel that until this is resolved she should be put on paid or unpaid suspension. A student would be held to that standard why not a principal? I also feel that due to the time frame that the incident occurred she should really be suspended. She could have been on the pills during school. Even if she wasnt the situation could have gotten to that point. If you are on those pain medications it effects your mood, behavior, and body! for someone to be on those pills and to be in charge of young children is ridiculous. I personally feel this situation should be looked at a little better and a resolution should be found quickly. Ms Blancarte should be on suspension until her hearing, after that if she is innocent then she should be able to return to work. I think a principal should be held to a higher standard than anyone in the school district, they are the one who is in front of everything involved with the school.

Role model??? She has been in the paper several times for domestic violence, her house was forclosed on and the IRS is after her and now drug charges. Wake up Louisburg, Just because she puts on a nice smile and makes everyone fill all warm and fuzzy does not make her role model material. Put a pig in a dress it is still a pig! If one of the students had these charges they would have been expelled and the rumor mill would be going crazy. But this isn't a rumor. If this were a student who would be standing up for that student? If you haven't had to do business with her well then lucky you, if you have then you are not surprised by any of this. It's a big wheel and hers has finally came full circle. I do fill for her children, but not for her. If she isn't guilty why the plea bargin????? I've had to deal with the legal system a couple of times and you don't make a plea bargin unless there is a reason to plea. That would be to save your own skin.

Louisburg citizens have always wanted to hang first and ask questions later. Get off the school boards cases. They are following the law. If they were to fire Mrs. Blancarte until her case appears in cour (Remeber, "INNNONCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY") they would open the school district up to a huge lawsuit. Plenty of people were against Mrs. Blancarte from the start. She was treated horribly from the first day she was here by certain vindictive co workers including one involved in the case that did NOT want to see Mrs. Blancarte succeed. Grow up Louisburg people. Wow, what a concept, a Principal gets arrested and charged for a drug charge and they are still on the job. If a student gets arrested and charged for having a beer, they get suspened. Shouldnt Teachers, Principals, and School Board Members be held to a higher standard? Shouldn't they be role models? Why not suspend her pending the outcome of the plea bargaining. Wait a minute, plea bargaining, if I was a student, I wouldnt be playing sports, I wouldn't be in school. I guess, drug addiction, felony charges and going to court could all be used by the school system as a learning experience for her students. Why not a school trip to the district court to see the criminal justice work? Maybe that is what the School Board wants. I hope the next time a student gets in trouble and they want to punish them, they remember to do onto others as tehy protect their principles, oops, I mena Principals!

I agree that she should be suspended with pay until this whole thing has passed over. Too many people are taking drastic measures with their kids by keeping them at home. Come on, they are with teachers all day, I think they are just fine. She could have been in a lot of pain and is trying to deal with it. Hasn't she been through enough without us creating community havoc on her. You know how things get completely blown out of proportion. The fact that she is still trying to do her job and keep her head up says a lot about her care of the school. Pretty soon something else will come up for us to bitch about.

Wow. House foreclosed, domestic violence, drug charges, co-workers not wanting her to succeed, kids posting on this website. Guilty or not, placed on leave or not, where's the compassion in Louisburg. Where's the community coming together in an atmosphere of support? If she's guilty our kids will know and see the consequences, if she's not our kids will see the lack of community support surrounding her in hard times. Either way she needs help and so does the community. Where's the social workers and school psychologist. Where's the PTA. Time to start talking about the bigger problem. There's a huge drug, alcohol, and domestic violence problem in the rural communities including Louisburg. Maybe this will wake everyone up. Maybe the way to fix it is through education and awareness, not just stamping out the problem and returning to normal. It will still exist and get swept under the rug until it happens again and that person too will be stampeded by a community that doesn't want to look at the problem. Louisburg can get rid of Ms. Blancarte, but the problem will still be there until we all come out of denial and see the problem as a community issue that needs addressing.

A misunderstanding? Do you really think that Miami County would prosecute this if there was no evidence to press charges. Mrs. Blancarte made her bed and now she needs to stand on her own two feet and deal with the situation. Playing the victim card and throwing folks under the bus is not the answer. Admitting your problem and asking for help probably would have been received by all in a much different light.

I feel sorry for her family, but I also feel sorry for the students & parents of her school. She needs to be held accountable for her actions, just as any student of 416 would be held accountable. If you watch the KCTV report it shows the police report. They marked 3 boxes on the report....buying/receiving ...using/consuming ...distributing/selling. To "WAKE UP, IOUSBURG": Your ignorance of the law is almost as amazing as your ignorance of the facts. Who said she stole anything, refilled anything, or was caught with any drug in her possession that wasn't hers? If the source is you, then I can't wait to see you as the star witness for the prosecution at her trial. Why would the county attorney be willing to enter into plea negotiations unless he wasn't convinced of the strength of his own case? That logic works both ways, and the possible reasons that people enter into plea negotiations are vast, and don't necessarily reflect guilt.

This woman is a school administrator. Forget what would happen to a student... how would Mrs. Blancarte handle a situation where a teacher was facing the same felony charges. I think paid leave is definitely the answer. I feel teachers and especially administrators should be held to a higher standard. They live their lives in the spotlight, and do so by choice... much like leaders in other parts of the community. It is one thing to answer have to answer to peers, or constituants for your poor judgement, but to be in a position of authority among children, there are higher expectations laid upon you. As there should be! I have spoken to other principals about this matter, specifically ones that have dealt with Mrs. Blancarte professionally, and personally. They are in agreement that even if the board didn't call for a temporary suspension, Mrs. Blancarte should have voluntarily removed herself until it was resolved. We are becoming a society lacking accountability... for our own actions, and those we pick and choose to protect. If Mrs. Blancarte has fallen into this pattern of addiction due to pain management, she certainly wouldn't be the first... but I cannot stress enough, that much like we wouldn't tolerate a school official putting alcohol in her morning coffee... we ABSOLUTELY shouldn't tolerate the abuse of prescription medication on the job. If she is no longer able to get her medication from area medical professionals, it is obvious she has a problem... if anyone has ever dealt with an addict, you know that they will go to great lengths to feed that addiction... if, God forbid, Mrs. Blancarte were to go outside of the "system" to obtain her "medication", what type of danger does THAT behavior put our children at risk of. Drug free zone, doesn't JUST apply to the children within!

The "message" that is being sent by the way this is being handled to the high school & middle school kids is do as I say not as I do. Drug dogs & drug searches are done at the high school & middle school. When drugs are found the student suffers the consequences - AS THEY SHOULD. Student athletes sign a pledge that they will not use drugs or they will suffer the consequences - AGAIN, AS THEY SHOULD! Why does the administration not hold the principal of our Elementary students to the same standard! She needs to be suspended until this is cleared up.

And as far as the person who posted the grammar police post - Please this is not about grammar! This has to do with what is right & wrong. This situation has cast a dark cloud over our community & needs to be handled properly.

Is she lying even to her own children? "my mom wasn't arrested" indicates that at least one of her kids doesn't understand the court system. You're not charged with crimes, FELONIES, without being arrested.

"She was treated horribly from the first day she was here by certain vindictive co workers including one involved in the case that did NOT want to see Mrs. Blancarte succeed."

For the person who wrote this....who is this certain vindictive co-worker?? Is it someone who has been blamed for Ms. Blancarte's mistakes...such as the teacher's schedules that she told teachers at the end of LAST YEAR that she would have for them soon and didn't and then blamed it on a co-worker...is it someone who has been doing jobs that should be done by the principal...is it someone who has had to deal with her mood changes when she is on/off the pills?? I believe that maybe YOU don't have the whole story either. Right now, this is all about the fact that she has done something illegal and should not be able to stay at work where she is in charge of hundreds of kids. She got caught. Maybe that is what she needed in order to get the help she needs but maybe was afraid to ask for. She needs to be held responsible for what she did. Dr. Doll needs to come out and make a statement as to why she is still working. A lot of parents do not understand his reason behind that and need clarification. This is our children's school...a GREAT school...and we want to keep it that way.

Let's stop the finger pointing and trying to figure out who didn't want her to succeed. Thats not the issue. The issue is that she did something ILLEGAl and Dr. Doll and the School Board want to avoid answering questions and hope that it will all go away. Well its not going to go away. I for one will continue to call school board members and Dr. Doll or whatever means I need to get clarification and action to this horrible problem in our school.

Is the issue that she did something illegal, or that she is accused of doing something illegal? If she did something illegal, don't you think the Dr. Doll and school board would do something? You know, a reason she might be considering a plea bargain could have something to do with, regardless of the facts, she could face a jury that contains many people like those on this comment board who (a) jump to conclusions and (b) assume that, well, if she was charged then she must have done something wrong.

Please be informed. She was charged with buying/recieving, using/consuming and distributing/selling. She was also charged with possession. You don't get charged with possession unless there is some sort of evidence that you were possessing. She has no one to blame but herself. So all of you "do gooders" need to quit blaming everyone else. The only people that should be answering to this is the School Board for not getting her out of the school and Blancarte herself.

To the writer, above who stated "Is the issue that she did something illegal, or that she is accused of doing something illegal? If she did something illegal, don't you think the Dr. Doll and school board would do something?"

So, you're saying Dr. Doll and the school board have more facts of the case than the prosecutor, and have deemed her not guilty? Also, juries don't need to jump to conclusions - that's the entire reason for a trial...to get to the FACTS.

She may be plea bargaining to avoid losing her teacher/administrator license. Convicted felons can't be licensed educators in Kansas. I wouldn't care about a jury assuming something if I was truly innocent and the facts were in my favor.

They don't just go randomly arresting people on felony drug charges for the heck of it. If there wasn't enough evidence, they'd drop the charges. Courts enter into plea bargaining all the time to save tax payer money - not because they don't feel they have a strong enough case.

What is going to happen when a student gets caught with drugs and tells is us they thought it was okay because it was ok for Ms. Blancarte? Is that the message we want sent to our children? We need to stop and think about the children. They are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. And Blancarte is in charge of the most impressionable aged children.

Oh, you can get charged even if there isn't some sort of evidence that you were in possession. That is why there is a preliminary hearing, my friend. This naive belief that only the guilty are charged and that the police would only investigate and a county attorney would file charges if there is evidence would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.

No, I am saying maybe the school board and the the supt. have to look at what someone is accused of, what are the legal ramifications of suspending someone, what are the contractual consequences, what are the facts as they know them, how do those facts as they know them affect her ability to be a principal and how do those facts as they know them impact the safety of kids. Plus - if there isn't a danger to kids and she can add to the learning environment, does it make sense to have her sit at home drawing a paycheck instead of contributing to the school?

Do we know for a fact that our children are not in danger from this person? Do we know for a fact that she is not still using this prescription drug? A person that is using drugs (prescription or not) are not in a normal state of mind, thats why they call it under the influence.

Does anyone know if there is anything in their contracts that cover situations like this?? If she gets a lesser sentence or whatever...will she be able to continue to work here?? I'd say buy out her contract and get her out so the school can start fresh with someone that everyone can work with and not worry about mood swings.

When is the next school board meeting?!?!?!?!?!?! Let's bring the pitchforks and torches. They all seem like such an unreasonable lot who would not put any thought into whether or not someone should stay in their position when they are accused of something like this. I bet they never even thought to talk to their lawyer about what the can or should do. And I am sure they have a motive for keeping her in her position, because I bet it was such an easy decision for them to make. I bet they were just hoping for this to happen like this, and to make the possibly unpopular decision just so that their phones would ring. They probably don't even care anyway. All they are worried about is making sure their paycheck as school board members keep clearing the bank!

I hope that if Mrs. Blancarte is found innocent all of you harsh, judgemental, inconsiderate, rude, demeaning people pull out your pens and notepads and write apologies. Everyone has been misunderstood before and things get blown out of proportion. Louisburg is a community, but by the looks of it everyone is acting as if it is every man for themselves. I am disappointed not by the fact that the principal is receiving such little respect in a matter like this but that all of you have your claws out and are assuming the worst. Never have I been more ashamed to call Louisburg, KS home of the Wildcats my hometown. I am glad to see that you have all been taught to believe what you read, because obviously none of you know that Blancarte family. You don't know their history or what they are going through. Pick up the phone and dial a number if you want to learn something. I am glad that I was raised in a household of learning not to judge a book by its cover. This is ridiculous. I don't know how any of you can sleep having the hearts that you do. And this isn't directed to everyone because there are many respectful people that have replied on here that do want to understand the story before they jump to the conclusions. But to all of you that do judge the book by the cover and don't know all of the facts please leave your opinions to yourself. Never has a child been harmed or has Mrs. Blancarte ever mistreated a student. You all make me seriuosly sick to my stomach reading all of the hatred on this page.

Very funny comment about the school board meeting.. sarcasm and all. I don't think anyone is saying that pitch forks & torches should be brought to the next school board meeting. However, school board members are elected officials & so what is wrong with asking your school board member - that you have elected what is going on here? We as the public have every right to know what is going on in our childrens school. No one is saying the school board members don't work hard & for NO pay, but they knew that when they decided to run for the position.

Mrs. Blancarte obviously needs to get some help. Let her take a leave of absense & get the help she needs. Wouldn't this be what would happen at your place of employment if an employee was under the same set of circumstances? The kids don't need to be exposed to seeing her day in and day out knowing what is going on. Seems like common sense to me.

LOL! Ok....we make you sick? How about having someone in charge of HUNDREDS of impressionable children who go to school each day not knowing that their principal...the one person who they think is the boss of everyone....could be impaired and not be able to handle a situation that they may need to make a quick judgement call. That makes ME sick to my stomach knowing my child has to depend on someone who may or may not be "high". I do know she's been putting someone of her responsibilities on employees who are not supposed to be making those decisions. I refuse to say I'm sorry to someone who knowingly was doing this illegally and is lying about it..."It's all a big misunderstanding...blah blah blah!" She was sneaky and got caught. This may be the best thing that's happened to her. She needs help and now her family realizes it and hopefully she'll get it.

Anyone close to her or her family knows what is really going on. I agree it seems to have turned into a witch hunt of sorts, and my heart goes out to her children, more than anyone. Mrs. Blancarte has problems that go much deeper than a drug addiction. I have no desire to join the lynching mob, but speaking as someone who has been on the receiving end of her instability, I hope that regardless of the outcome, there is a psychological evaluation done, and the proper steps are taken to get her help.

For those close to her, the worst thing you can do is continue to cover for her... that is only enabling her. She needs your help and support, now more than ever... burying your head in the sand, and hoping, like with everything else, this too will go away, is naive, and destructive. She is someone's mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend... I can't believe it had to come to her whole world unravelling, and a very public scandal, for something to be done. If those of you posting want to continue to argue this issue, you should stick to the facts... if you have children that attend Broadmoor, you have every right to demand she be on temporary leave until this is resolved- that would happen in any of the surrounding districts. But this isn't the venue to launch personal attacks... I would say a majority of us have personal problems we hope would never be exploited the way hers have. Unfortunately, because her personal problems have come into the light, I really hope for her sake, that she accepts responsibility and seeks to make things right.

What is it in us that takes pleasure in other's suffering, when we think it's justified? Truth is becoming a gray area; accountability is becoming scarce; and justice is measured by relevance, and sidestepped by bargaining. We should be more concerned with holding ourselves to the standard of which we hold others... maybe then we wouldn't be afraid to post our names, along with our opinions.

Blancarte should be seeking the help that she needs. She should not be in the school while going through this. Dr. Doll and the school board should be the ones making sure she gets this help as her employer. The community should not be helded responsible for getting her help.

As for the Blancarte family I am sure that they are going through a really rough time right now. I feel for those family members. However, I can not feel sorry for Ms. Blancarte because she is the one who put herself in this position.

Calling us harsh, judgemental, inconsiderate etc. for wanting to protect our children. Trying putting your child's safety and learning experiences first. No one is out to get Blancarte. They just want an explantion of why she is still allowed to be in the school. And everyone a has a right to their opinion.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking the elected school board members what is going on, or even telling them what you think should happen. But, I don't think it is fair for people with no personal knowledge to say that Doll isn't doing what is right, the board is just covering up, etc. You can disagree with what they are doing. You can suggest that their decisions should be different, but it is silly to think they have some hidden agenda or motive for the actions they have taken. What would be the advantage? I am sure they are/have been dealing with this issue in as professional a way as they can. Feel free to disagree with them, but don't throw around phrases like "worthless school board" and "Doll tried to hide this forever". It isn't fair, and it isn't accurate.

Ok, I've just seen my daughter for the first time since putting her on the bus this morning. I thought she was oblivious to what was going on so I just asked her if anyone was talking about drugs at school and she said no, so I asked really. She then put her head down and said Ms. Blancarte sells drugs. She then asked if she (Ms. Blancarte) was going to try and sell them to her (my daughter). I've never thought I'd have to tell my daughter that her principal had some problems and couldn't quit taking her medication...that it became a bigger problem for her. My daughter and I have now had a discussion I hoped she would not have to worry about in her school...in her "little town". Now she'll go to school and will look at Ms. Blancarte wondering if she's using.

Now for those of you who will have a smart comment, go ahead, but you aren't the one raising my daughter. And while she's not always going to be innocent, I had hoped she would hold onto her innocence a little longer.

I see the thinking of the people of this town are still in the dark ages. So her house in in foreclosure...so she has had problems at home...so she has pain...give me a break, the time I spent in Louisburg I found more than my share of people with social disorder current or past. You welcome people only after they jump through hoops and when the towns-folk are done with you, they throw you out with the bathwater.
Lighten up people. Let this woman have her day in court before you hang her by her feet so you can all threw stones at her.Oh and one more thing...unless it as to deal with you...mind your own business!

When my child is involved and is coming home saying her principal does drugs and I have to explain what is happening...and not let her hear my feelings that the principal should be on leave from the school...it is my business. It is the business of every parent in the school district...it is the business of every student in the school district...it is the business of the citizens of Louisburg...the tax payers who foot the bill. I agree with one thing...the administration and board need to get out of the dark and open their eyes. I tried to keep this from my child, but she was the one that came home from school and asked me about it.

I know people have their own problems and I know people have pain, but I would never leave my child in the care of someone "under the influence" of anything. Being "under the influence" means drugs, alcohol, and pain killers. Pain killers are in the same category as cocaine and other hard drugs! If I wouldnt leave my child with someone that was under the influence why would I want my child to go to school where a principal.. may be under the influence. It just floors me that she wouldn't think of the children first. If it were me I would take a leave of absence until the mess is cleared up. I mean for her to be at work for a day or so to finish some paperwork that is fine, but she is still at school and it has been a long time since she was arrested! Can we please take her out of the spot light until this is over!!?? This is just bringing a bad reputation on the community. I also have to say to her children.. Im sorry you have to go through this, but she should do what is right for the children. She should show them that drugs are bad and that there are consequences for your actions.

It is so sad that her daughter has to read all of this and try to defend her, I would guess She has also been reading these comments it is to bad she doesn't take the time to tell her side of the story But I am sure she has been told to zip her lip. If it is all a big misunderstanding then there would be no reason for her not to clear the air with everyone. All of her supporters seem to be saying just leave it alone. Well how would those people feel if there was a real emergency at the school and she was to messed up to handle it. Boy then how many of them would jump ship. She made this mess just as she has made all of the other messes and mistakes that have followed her. Only this time she got caught.

My name is Charlie Phillips and I am one the vague people that have made comments on this site. I am also one of the people who have called school board members to let them know how I feel. I am not ashamed or embarrassed by what I have said. I am on the other hand embarrassed by the way that the superintendent and board are handling it.
I do not believe that it is right for her to still be working while this is all going on. Placing her on administrative leave is the smart and logical thing to do. I will say that I do not have a child in the Louisburg school system. I do have a daughter that will be soon and if she were in that school now I would have even stronger feelings than I do now. So if I am out of place for saying what I believe and standing up for what I believe is right then so be it. If you feel the same way that I do, then don’t stop calling the board and voicing your feelings.

For anyone unfamiliar with hydrocodone who are making statements to us like "It's not like she was caught with cocaine", I encourge you to Google "hydrocodone addiction" or "hydrocodone abuse" or "hydrocodone" and learn from the over 900,000 articles online. The DEA lists it as the fastest-growing "white collar" drug problem. Here's one tidbit from a rehab site: "Treatment for hydrocodone addiction is similar in nature to the manner in which heroin addiction is treated... Hydrocodone changes the way the brain functions. The drug makes itself the number one priority to the brain and therefore it becomes very hard for an individual to quit hydrocodone without some kind of professional treatment. Once the brain changes enough so that hydrocodone becomes the most important thing in a person's life that is when addiction occurs.Once addicted to hydrocodone, individuals have been known to steal, lie to doctors and fake illnesses in order to obtain the drug." http://www.michaelshouse.com/h...tment.html

It does not make sense, that a Principal is not held to the same standards as a student. For the "innocent principal" to enter a plea bargain before a hearing sounds fishy. I wish the paper would print the police report and charges so we can see the truth. As for being the best Principal, anyone ever been charged a felony before? misdemeanor?

I just love all the comments from the supposed Christians who want to turn this into a "witch hunt." How is it a witch hunt if you get arrested for a felony? Sounds to me like the evidence was against her. I believe everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but I also believe if you get caught with illegal scrips, have intent to sell and to use, then you should be on forced paid leave of absence. I don't think protecting my child from bad influences makes me un-Christian, or constitutes trash talk. I agree with the person about who told "Embarrased" to get out. If you exonerate the felon you know, then exonerate all of them! Its not a pick and choose system, folks. If you do the crime and are convicted, you do the time. No one seems to have convicted her here, just want her out of her job until the court does its job! Its a travesty that she's remained here for the last 4-5 months!

I am the former student of 416. And no, I'm not neglecting my child's education. I have a teaching degree and I home school my child. She still has friends over and maybe I am overreacting a little. But I know that here in my home she will not be exposed to any of this going on. It's not just the risk that might or might not be there. It's also the devastation going on in the school. Children are aware of what's going on and everyone should really consider talking with them about it. My daughter personally came to me wanting answers before I had even heard about it. I'm still not saying she is innocent or guilty. I don't have all the facts and I'm not the judge and jury. But again I wish to keep my child out of this mess. And like I said before, I will personally apologize to Debbie and her family if this turns out to be a mistake. I'm sorry now that this is going on and what they must be going through.

As a father in the Louisburg school district I just want to say Ms. Blancarte is on paid admin leave and plans to resign according to the letter my child brought home today.

That should be the end of our involvements in the case itself. What we, as parents, should be worried about now is the continuing education of our children and making sure our children understand this change. This change in leadership can greatly trouble a school or it can continue to improve a school.

It is now our jobs as parents to work that much harder with the teachers to show our support for what they do for our children. I don't know what reactions the teaching staff will have to this change, hopefully none but we cannot forget the feeling out process all new employee/employer relationships have when there is a change.
