Broadmoor Elementary School students will soon be doing their part to help the American Heart Association and better their health in the process. Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at the school will be participating in the annual Jump Rope For Heart on Feb. 10, and leading up to the event, students will be collecting donations. Each of Broadmoor’s more than 360 students will participate in the event during their physical education class. During the jump rope activities, P.E. teachers will be integrating science, health and math concepts so students can learn about the circulatory system, the different parts of the heart, risk factors for the heart, cholesterol, how to eat a well-balanced meal, how to figure out their target heart rate, and how to add up their time of physical activity for every day, week or month. Students will also be able to volunteer to collect donations for the American Heart Association from now until the day of the event.
