All the Louisburg eighth-grade boys’ basketball team needed was a little home cooking to do it some good.

The Wildcats, who struggled going into the Jan. 20 game with Anderson County, got a big lift with two home wins. Louisburg defeated Anderson County 52-14 and followed that up with a 34-29 Frontier League win over Baldwin.

The two wins give the Wildcats a 3-3 record on the year and a big boost of momentum.

Against Baldwin, the Wildcats got two big plays in the first half that helped out in the win. Adam Daugherty hit a 25-foot, 3-pointer at the buzzer in the first quarter and Dylan York had a big putback right before halftime to give the Wildcats a 19-18 lead.

“We turned in a great effort against a very talented team,” Louisburg coach John Ozier said. “Strong defense, solid rebounding and limiting our turnovers were the difference.”

Bryant Doerfler led Louisburg in scoring with 14 points, while Patrick Storey and Kade Larson each finished with four. Daugherty and Jake Masterson added three points, while Alex Cook, York and John Stambaugh added two a piece.

Against Anderson County, the Wildcats didn’t let off the gas. Louisburg jumped out to a 27-10 lead and never looked back.

“This was by far our best effort of the season on each end of the court,” Ozier said. “I was very happy with our defensive intensity throughout the game. We really cut down on our turnovers and made some shots that we have been missing all season.”

Storey led the Wildcats with 11 points and Kade Larson finished with eight. Cook and Daniel O’Connor added six and five points, respectively. Stambaugh (five points), Masterson (four), Doerfler (three), Tommy Storey (three), Garrett Lesher (two), Daugherty (two), York (two) and Clark Gregory (two) rounded out the Wildcat scorers.
