It was an up-and-down week for the Louisburg seventh-grade boys’ basketball team.

On Jan. 20, the Wildcats traveled to Anderson County for a 36-28 victory, which was, at the time, their second-straight win. But Thursday’s game at Baldwin was a different story.

Baldwin used a big second half and rolled to a 34-14 victory after the Bulldogs led just 12-6 at halftime.

“Our kids played as about as tough of defense as they have all year for the first two quarters,” Louisburg coach Brandon Crawford said. “But eventually the bigger and stronger Baldwin team wore us out. They had two big players down low that controlled the second half. (Baldwin) did a good job of controlling the ball and getting us out of our game plan.”

Taylor Donaldson scored a team-high six points to lead the Wildcats and Wyatt Sander finished with four. Ben Powers and Tyler Reno each added two points a piece.

Against Anderson County, the Wildcats trailed at halftime again, but this time responded with a big second half. Louisburg scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Drew Carder led the Wildcats with eight points and 10 rebounds and Will Garza added eight points and seven rebounds. Luke Hupp, D.J. Meyer and Donaldson scored six points and Sander finished with two.

“The boys played extremely hard,” Crawford said. “We came out in the first quarter really flat, and we had no rhythm. The boys had their backs to the wall all night, but we played an excellent second half of basketball. Our defense is what won us the game.”

The ‘B’ team kept a perfect record on the season with a 27-10 win over Anderson County and a 25-22 win over Baldwin.

Reno led the Wildcats against Anderson County with nine points and Jack Niebaum finished with four. In the win over Baldwin, Reno again led the Wildcats with seven points, while Justin Bussell, Powers, Jack Niebrugge and Jacob Arbuckle finished with four.
