Now that not wearing your seatbelt is a primary charge, will that change whether or not you will wear a seat belt?

“C’mon, B-9,” Shannon Caflisch whispers, his eyes fixed on a Bingo card.

Teacher Jeremy Holloway’s voice reverberates through the Louisburg Middle School gym, “B-9.”

“Bingo!” Caflisch pumps his card in the air.

The Louisburg man was among dozens of residents who turned out Saturday for the LMS Parent-Teacher-Student Organization’s annual Bingo Night. Prizes for all ages were piled atop tables at one end of the gym. The event also featured a raffle and concessions.

Karin Olson smiles as her 4-year-old son, Jackson, picks out a computer game with his winning Bingo ticket, while Margie Johnson helps 6-year-old Dasha Partnoi inspect dolls at another table.

“My daughter, Trisha (Johnson), has five kids in Louisburg schools,” said Margie Johnson, a Peculiar, Mo., resident. “She invited us over to spend the night. We’re having a great time. I wish they did something like this in our school district.”

PTSO vice president Kerry Goff waits behind one of the toy-covered tables for the next lucky winner to claim her prize.

“The turnout is better than I expected,” Goff says as she scans the gym. “I didn’t think there were that many cars in the parking lot when I pulled up, but there’s more people in here than I thought there would be.”

Goff said she gave her bingo card to her seventh-grade daughter, Ashlee.

“She’s luckier than I am,” said Goff, laughing.

Perhaps nobody was luckier than the Rodriguez family, which won the Nintendo Wii raffle.

PTSO members had plenty of reasons to smile Saturday night. PTSO president Jenny Diederich said the organization took in more than $1,400 at the door, but that figure did not represent all the money collected, which she had not had an opportunity to tabulate as of Monday morning.

Diederich said she was pleased with the turnout, especially since other activities were taking place Saturday evening in Louisburg.

“I thought it turned out great. The gym was full,” she said. “We had great raffles and awesome door prizes. I think everybody left with something. It was a fun family night.”
