The drug charges against former principal Deborah Blancarte, who resigned earlier this week from her position at Broadmoor Elementary School in Louisburg, have been modified.

Blancarte originally faced two felony drug charges. She now faces only one count of conspiracy to possess hydrocodone. The second charge, possession of hydrocodone, has been dismissed, according to Miami County District Court documents.

Blancarte is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Feb. 12.

According to court documents describing the modified charge, Blancarte unlawfully, willfully, intentionally and feloniously conspired with another to possess a quantity of the pain killer hydrocodone. Blancarte did so by asking the person, listed in the documents as “M.S.,” to obtain a hydrocodone prescription for Blancarte’s personal use.

The charge of conspiracy to possess hydrocodone is a felony punishable by 10 to 42 months in a state prison and a possible fine not to exceed $100,000, according to court documents.

The Louisburg USD 416 Board of Education is expected to accept Blancarte's resignation at its meeting Monday. In the meantime, Blancarte has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Superintendent Rick Doll and Pam Best, director of administrative services, will serve as co-principals of Broadmoor Elementary for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year.

Blancarte unlawfully, willfully, intentionally and feloniously conspired with another, Blancarte did so by asking the person, listed in the documents as “M.S.,”???? Why isn't M.S. being held respomsible too? Yes, we all know it is her secretary, Michelle Simmons. Why hasn't she been charged with felony charges as well? So much for our law enforcement! Apparently there is favoritism going on in our district & it is WRONG!!! Those that are not liked get "set-up" & the rest just laugh about it!

Ya are not getting all the story, I am sure ya have all done this before. Taken family member med's one time or another. Or in some case gone & picked up family or friends med's & their was a problem fill the med. We all have been there & done that before.
Some people can think that it ok for them but not teacher or anyone else that is working with their childern to do the same as they have done.

So is MS a family member to Blancarte??? Don't think so. I know I have never taken anyone elses prescription medicine, family members or not. To the above post...no we have not all done this before. Otherwise, if we had we would all have felonies on our records. There is a difference in getting your child's antibotic prescription filled to trying to fill a presciption of hydrocodone that doesn't belong to any family member or to you. You all can point the fingers and say, yeah but...but she is the one that tried to fill the presciption...she is the one charged with a felony...it is because of those things that the parents in Louisburg felt so strongly that she be on leave.

She is the one who IS ALLEGED to have tried to fill the prescriptoion. The County attorney has already changed his story at least once, lets see how many other times it changes.

The County Attorney has not CHANGED his story. (The facts of the case are still and always will be on file for those of you who need to see to believe.) The County Attorney has however modified the charges due to a plea bargin with Blancarte.

As for Blancarte, she is no longer the principal at the school and is now a normal citizen who has a problem and needs to deal with it. So now continuing to talk about her is nothing but GOSSIP. Find something better to do with your time.

Charges are OFTEN amended as part of the plea negotiation process, which we know is occurring in this case. Many times one or more charges are dropped when there are multiple charges. (That's what a plea bargain is - DUH.) For example, one scenario might be that they'd drop one charge if she resigned from being a school administrator. JUST AN EXAMPLE. Amended charges do NOT necessarily mean that she was incorrectly charged initially nor do they mean she was innocent of that charge or wrongly accused in the first place.

They aren't OFTEN amneded before the actual time that the plea occurs. Seems to me like they pushed back the preliminary hearing on the charges that they had because they knew they wouldn't stand. I hope she goes forward with a preliminary hearing on the new charge instead of taking a plea.

I sure hope Dr. Doll knows how to work with elementary kids in grades 3-4-5. Isn't he a former high school teacher? Being a principal, or teacher, in the elemenatary grades is an entirely different world! Debbie Blancarte was a very caring, nurturing person. I can't wait to see how Dr. Doll is going to work with these little ones. And, how is he going to work with the teachers? These teachers have been through a lot these past few weeks. I sure hope he can bring some healing, comfort and help to them. He and Pam Best sure have a difficult road to travel in these next few months. May God grant them wisdom during this time.

Dr. Doll can barley handle his high school class let alone be a principle of an Elementary School. Debbie B. was kind and caring as stated above, she is a mother and teacher, regardless of the actions that have taken place. She did nothing to harm the children, or influence them in any way. I work with some of these kids on a weekly basis and none of them even knew of the incident till the media got a hold of the story. If anyone is to blame for influencing the children it would be the media. Now she is gone and the feature of your kids may me rocky for the next couple of months! May the hands that we have placed our children in be stable and nurturing like Debbie's.

I agree with you! I am skeptical about Dr. Doll being the principal. I was trying to be positive. I am hoping that Pam Best can provide the care these kids need. I look forward to meeting her.

Pam Best is a wonderful person! She is a woman of her WORD, just like Debbie Blancarte was! More than I can say for others in the district. She will do a GREAT job as co-Principal for our kids at BES for the remainder of the school year!

Favoritism? Special benefits? Set up? Hah! Grow up and smell the coffee people. You are reaching! Nobody is favored in the school district and nobody was set up. Debbie took the drugs and got caught doing it. There is no crime in taking them for pain, but to impersonate someone to refill them is. She messed up and she's paying the price. We all feel bad for her but she made her bed and now she is living in it. For those of you who do not have all the facts, shut your mouths before your foot gets shoved in it.

You know what everyone....it's done....she's gone. Dr. Doll and Pam Best are going to share the principal duties and unlike Blancarte they are not going to be taking pills on the side. She may have been a good principal but she used bad judgement and that is not what a role model involved with hundreds of kids should do and then say "It's a misunderstanding". How about "I made a mistake, I need help. I'm going to accept my punishment and get better." I think our kids will be ok, because those who understand the severity of this situation will know that it is out of the school now and will not have to worry about it. My daughter learned more about drugs (prescription or otherwise) in the past few weeks than I learned my whole childhood. Blancarte is going to get help and get a job with less stress, which could be a blessing. As for whom she may/may not have got them from...it is up to whoever charged Blancarte to charge her, not us. Get over it people.

It is so easy to be cynical and cruel when the finger isn't pointed at you, but soon enough what goes around comes around. For those of you who can't just let this go need to realize that there is nothing that you can do or say to make this go away or get better. What is done is done. People make mistakes and move on from them everyday. Leave this alone, find something else to do with your time.

Yes what goes around comes around...oh so true!!! And I can't wait for the day that the real truth comes out & the cat is out of the hat a/b how all of this REALLY got started. So many hypocrites out there...like you said, remember, what goes around comes around!!!

Wow, she resigns, charges amended due to plea bargaining. When will the Herald publish the police report, the indictment and the full plea agreement. Will they publish these public documents or will they be their usual pro school district, powers that be are gods in their eyes newspaper?

This is typical Louisburg. Lets ignore things and wait for them to go away. Lets hope the powers that be grow a spine and take care of the entire problem and quit worrying about who is related to whom or married to whom. Oh wait!! This is Louisburg we are talking about. Wake up people!! NOTHING will happen unless the problem is ramed down their throats. I agree more heads need to roll...

NO ONE except for people who know nothing really on this comment board have said that the charges were amended due to plea bargaining. Also, what is wrong with supporting the school district? What has it really done wrong? Don't you think they have really though through what their decisions are?

So, now we are trying to find fault with the Louisburg Herald? What about the Miami County paper? Or how about we publish it in the school papers? Come on people. If you know how to use a computer then you can find the information that someone thinks the paper should publish.

Now it is pure gossip? What? The School Board and Superintendent tried to cover this up and protect one of their own and this is a problem. If it would have been you or me, we would have been at least on a paid leave or worse fired. I guess I can't understand a community where the students are held to a higher standard then the adults. Maybe I think that is wrong and they should be held to a higher standard. If Doll and crew would have placed her on leave till this matter was handled and she got help if she needed it, I wouldn't have had a problem with it. But to allow someone to continue to work around children while under investigation for felony charges is wrong. Would you allow a teacher who was under investigation because she supposedly had sex with a student to teach? Would you allow a bus driver to drive your children if she were under investigation for driving under the influence? They suspend students for chew but an adult under investigation for a felony can continue to supervise children, run a school and make decision concerning money being spent. Maybe I don't see the big picture but I do see something wrong with what is going on in the School System. Maybe, I'm wrong but I believe that equal justice for all and that the 14th amendment apply to all, not just for some and not all. How can the School Board look a student in the eye next time one of them have a "misunderstanding" with the law or a rule. Hypocrite is the term that comes to mind, maybe lawsuit comes to mind. Maybe, the School Board and Doll can come up with a code of conduct for the adults, we have an extensive one for the students. Isn't that a shame, we need a code of conduct for the Adults!

Wow if I were charged everytime I talked a friend out of a hydrocodone because I had a tooth ache that was unbearable I'd be locked up for a long time I do not abuse hydrocodone a bottle perscribed can last me 2 years but I have no problem letting a friend in pain have onee if they ever ask. Let it go stop the gossip I never heard a single bad thing about her before this just that she was a good prenciple so stop bashing her.

I guess it time to let it go since people are more concerned covering up the truth , lowering the standards of conduct for public officials and holding children to higher standards then adults. I guess I can let it go.
