Harold LeForest Weaver, 90, Paola, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Indian Creek Nursing Home in Overland Park.
He was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Chautauqua County, Kan., to Lester and Lula Briggs Weaver.

In 1939 he graduated from Elk City High School and attended diesel mechanic school in Kansas City.

He married Elizabeth Lee Fultz in Nevada, Mo., on Feb. 14, 1941. They became the parents of four children.

They lived in Iola, where he was employed as a mechanic for the Bud White Motor Co. and the Pet Milk Co. They moved to Paola in 1950, where he was a mechanic for Peuser Chevrolet and the Fluor Corp. in Paola.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 and was stationed in Guam and Hiroshima, Japan, after the war. He served until 1946.

He was very involved helping his wife, Betty, with their businesses, including Betty’s Café and the Dew Drop Inn Restaurant and Betty’s Bridal and Boutique, all in Paola.

In 2004 he received his 50-year pin from the American Legion. Harold enjoyed working with his hands and was a race car enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.

Survivors are his children, Gene Weaver of Paola, Trudy Jensen of Wichita, Kan., Deborah Zimmerman of Paola, and Lisa Lee of Louisburg; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle Weaver of Fredonia, Kan., and Ivan Weaver of Wichita; and two sisters, Esther Stephenson of Dodge City, Kan., and Florence Merritt of Elkart, Kan. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Services were Tuesday, followed by burial in Paola Cemetery. Arrangements were by Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071 (913) 294-2372.

    Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association in care of the funeral home.
