A few stray thoughts seemed in order for this week’s missive. So hang on for the ride. No. 2: It does amaze me what kids will and won’t eat. Of all the things Drew won’t eat, he does like his blue-goose pie, which is his birthday “cake” this year. We’re not hard and fast birthday cake eaters and sometimes like to mix it up a bit. Drew really loves blueberry-gooseberry pie, so that’s what he got this year. I will admit a pie does look a little funny with candles stuck in the top crust. No. 3: Old dogs can learn new things, and I proved that this week, too. I was reading the Kansas City Star sports coverage on the KU-MU game and ran across a word I hadn’t heard of before: uberaggressive. Doug looked it up for me and “uber” is a German word that means super. Now I’ll have to see how many times I can work uberaggressive into my daily conversation. Maybe Drew will be uberaggressive on the boards and snag 10 rebounds in his team’s last regular-season basketball game this week. No. 3: I almost felt hypocritical Monday as I got dressed. Since the Big Monday game on ESPN featured my beloved KU Jayhawks vs. the arch enemy Missouri Tigers, I reached for my blue KU shirt. But Drew and his fellow junior high players had their last basketball game that same evening so I had to sport my purple and white. So my purple Powercat polo went on over the blue Jayhawk T-shirt. Boy, if that doesn’t feel weird. I guess it’s not uncommon to see my blue Jayhawk sweatshirt hood hanging out of the back of my purple Wildcat jacket. So I guess that means my flag flies both ways. No. 4: I’m having fun with my live blog on the Herald’s Web site. Last week’s blog was about me not having a Facebook page. Facebook is an online social network. Angela became my friend last night when she posted and said she connected with friends who live in the U.K. She said she used to live in the U.K. and lost touch with them when she moved stateside seven years ago. So I guess Facebook is a good way at keeping in touch with long-distance friends or family. Maybe someday I’ll give it a try. Goodness knows with 63 first cousins on just my mom’s side, I’ve got lots of family scattered all over the country. No. 5: Be sure to look for my blog this Sunday evening at 7. I have no idea what the topic will be, but I’ll be there. Since KU and MU play this week it may be a Crimson and Blue blog.
