The following are some recent general purpose reports recorded by Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies as they patrol the county.

At 2 p.m. Jan. 29, a sheriff’s deputy responded to an area near a cemetery at John Brown Highway and Bethel Church Road, where someone reported finding what they believed to be the remnants of a meth lab. A deputy and detective responded and talked with the reporting party, who said he found a backpack about a half mile south of 363rd Street on Crescent Hill Road. The sheriff’s detective looked into the bag and found several plastic containers, a glass pyrex stlye dish, a bottle of muriatic acid and a large number of AA batteries. He agreed that the items appeared to be portions of a meth lab. The contents of the bag were disposed of in a trash dumpster, except for the acid, which was disposed of at the Miami County Environmental Department.

At 10:09 a.m. Feb. 3, a sheriff’s deputy responded to the area of Crescent Hill Road and 363rd Street in response to horses being out. The deputy found 11 head of horses just west of the intersection and the owner, Jerilyn James, trying to figure out how to get them to their home one mile away on 359th Street. She eventually fashioned a halter out of a piece of rope and led one, after which the others followed.

At 10:48 a.m. Feb. 3, a sheriff’s deputy responded to 29326 Mission Belleview Road, where the reporting party discovered her shed door was open. The deputy checked the shed and found no signs of forced entry or criminal activity.

At 5:26 p.m. Feb. 5, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to 311 Grant Street in response to a call about a suspicious person. Martha Londo said a man wearing all black was in her backyard taking photographs. When she confronted him, he did not say anything to her. He eventually ran toward a red vehicle and left the scene.

At 2:30 a.m. Feb. 7, a sheriff’s deputy responded to the area of 343rd Street and Block Road after someone reported a structure fire. Prior to his arrival, the deputy heard fire units say the house was completely involved. Once he arrived, he saw the house was on fire and had fallen in on itself. He eventually contacted the owner, Steve Debrick, who said he owns the property but it has not been lived in for about five years. He also said he longer carried insurance on the house since it was unoccupied and somewhat run down. He did not know who started the fire.
