Sorority members were joined by their children and members of the Louisburg High School Leo Club in making the blankets Saturday morning at Fox Hall for Project Linus. “We ended up with 37 blankets,” organizer Debbie Randolph said. “I’m so happy — 37 boys and girls will be getting warm and fuzzy hugs from their new friends in Louisburg.” Saturday’s blanket-making session focused on cutting and tying fleece blankets made from child-oriented designs. Light blues, pinks and purples, flowers, sports and clouds all covered the tables inside the building. Randolph said the group was using fabric purchased throughout the year during sales and fabric donated by a local woman after last year’s blanket-making day. “I really wanted to go do this because it seemed like a neat thing to do,” Sue Hurst said. “There’s nothing like a worthy cause.” Hurst and her daughter Carlee worked together on one blanket while Sue’s other daughter Cassie worked on another with fellow Leo Club member Kara O’Keefe. “It’s a good place to get service hours,” O’Keefe said. Randolph said the group used more than 50 yards of fleece to assemble the blankets. The MOMS Club of Louisburg dropped off several blankets its members made for Project Linus as well. The sorority started its Project Linus day four years ago, when former member Kerry Goff searched out a service project for the group. Project Linus started in 1999 and has grown since, with thousands of security blankets donated each year to children in stressful situations who need a hug. On Saturday, volunteers who gave their time to make blankets were Debbie Randolph, Brandi Feehan, Vicki Feehan, Sue Hurst, Carlee Hurst, Julie Smith, Nicole Smith, Cassie Hurst and Kara O’Keefe.
