It’s about time to put on a poodle skirts or leather jackets and rock and roll at the Bowl for Kids’ Sake Rock and Roll bowling tournament from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Olathe East Lanes, 303 N. Lindenwood Drive, Olathe. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami County has 27 teams ready to bowl with 21 signed up for the 1 p.m. session and six for the 3 p.m. session, said director Erin Lyon. “There’s still room for more teams. If anyone still can get a team together, they can bowl at 3,” Lyon said. All it takes is getting four friends together and come bowl for a good cause, she said. “We already have $2,035 in corporate sponsorship, which is about a quarter less than what we had last year,” Lyon said. “But pledges for as low as $5-$10 can continue. If someone wants to pledge a bowler, but they don’t know any, they can make a check out to BBBS-KFKS.” In the county, the waiting list for matches stands at 16, Lyon said. “We have made 62 matches in the past two years from a low of 15. What most people don’t understand is that it takes about $1,000 to keep a match made. Monitoring matches takes time and money,” Lyon said. Last year, 37 teams from Miami County participated in the fund-raiser and saw a 97 percent return on pledges, Lyon said. “But even in the worst of times, children still need this kind of support,” she said. For information, call Lyon at 294-4403 or visit www.ksbbbs.org/mi. All proceeds benefit Miami County BBBS.
