Members of the Louisburg High School Jazz Band toured the American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum at 18th and Vine streets in Kansas City, Mo., on March 12.

As a part of their studies of the history of jazz music in Kansas City, the LHS students viewed films and video clips at the museum of jazz greats Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. The museum included interactive exhibits and rare artifacts such as Charlie Parker’s famous plastic saxophone.

Students also spent time touring the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which features the history of the Kansas City Monarchs and baseball in the time before integration of the major leagues.
