Drivers traveling 287th Street will have to watch their speed as they travel the newly repaved roadway.

City council members Monday evening approved a resolution setting the speed limit as 35 mph on the road from Metcalf Road to Rogers Road, bringing the speed in sync with the county’s portion of 287th west of U.S. Highway 69.

Previously the speed limit was not posted on that stretch of the road, said City Engineer Rita Cassida.

At their next meeting, council members are set to discuss renaming that portion of the street from 287th to South 16th Street to follow the city’s naming pattern.

“It’s consistent number, since we have something south of there,” Mayor Arlen Thompson said.

Also at Monday night’s meeting, council members approved a proclamation declaring May 7 as National Day of Prayer in Louisburg. A service observing the day is scheduled for noon at Louisburg High School, 202 Aquatic Drive.
