Eighth-grader Kade Larson showed why he is one of the better middle school throwers in the area during the May 5 Louisburg Invitational.

Larson captured the Wildcats’ lone gold medal in the 10-team meet and Louisburg finished seventh overall with 40 points. Raymore-Peculiar won the meet with 83 points, while Harrisonville and Gardner-Pioneer Ridge tied for second.

The discus was Larson’s best event of the day as he placed first with a throw of 137 feet, 5 inches and later took the silver in the shot put with a toss of 42-3.5. Teammate Alex Cook took fourth in the discus with a throw of 117-10.

On the track, Jason Danciak had the best finish of the day for Louisburg as he took bronze in the 1,600-meter run. Danciak recorded a time of 5 minutes, 33.3 seconds.

Daniel O’Conner finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 26.3 seconds and later finished sixth in the 400-meter dash in 59.49 seconds.

Nate O’Brien and Alex Hamby finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run, while Greyson Honsinger took sixth overall in the 100-meter dash in 12.31 seconds.

The 4x200-meter and 4x100-meter relay teams also finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

On the seventh-grade side, the Wildcats also finished seventh overall with 39 points. Pioneer Ridge won with 69.5 points and Harrisonville finished second.

Louisburg was shut out of the gold medals, but Will Garza had one of the better days of all the Wildcats. Garza took second in the long jump after he recorded a leap of 16-3 and later took third in the 100-meter dash in 12.5 seconds.

Taylor Cannon finished third in the discus with a toss of 90 feet, while teammate Ben Powers finished third in the pole vault after he cleared 7-6. Justin Bussell was fourth in the pole vault.

Powers finished right behind Garza in the 100-meter dash for a fourth place finish in 12.57 seconds and the Wildcats 4x100-meter relay team was fifth in 54.19 seconds. Simeon Bowman was fifth in the discus with a throw of 82-2.
