With several Memorial Day services on tap in the Louisburg area on Monday morning, area residents will have plenty of opportunities to honor veterans, some of whom paid the ultimate price for their country.

It’s not only a time to honor our fallen heros, but Monday also will present the chance to speak with veterans in attendance and learn more about their service to this country.

The services likely will also provide the opportunity to speak with parents or spouses of service men and women who are currently deployed overseas.

Memorial Day is much more than a chance to take a day off from work.

It’s a time for our nation to come together to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices our veterans and current enlisted personnel have made for their country.

America is the best country on Earth because of the freedoms our servicemen have fought to protect.

Take an opportunity Monday to thank these men and women, and take a moment to be thankful for living in the United States.

LHS graduates

Congratulations to the 108 seniors who graduated Sunday from Louisburg High School. We wish them the best. We also wish Superintendent Rick Doll well in his new job running the Lawrence school system, and to LHS Principal Sally Lundblad and the teachers who are retiring from the district this year.

You have all made outstanding contributions to the education of our students, as well as made a brighter future for our community.
