Kaitlyn Swierzbinski won’t ever forget the word “anything.”

That’s what she spelled correctly to win the title of spelling bee champion at Rockville Elementary School’s second-grade contest.

“I was excited, because I like winning,” Kaitlyn said.

She outspelled every other second-grader at Rockville to claim the title — nailing such words as “hardly,” “button” and “campground.”

The hardest word she had to spell was “helicopter,” she said.

So when she was up in front of her classmates, she thought hard and sounded out each word as best she could.
Evidently, the six days she said she spent practicing helped her claim the title.

“I just read and spelled lots of words,” Kaitlyn said.

Word by word, she eliminated each of her competitors, but when it was just Kaitlyn left, teachers observed her jumping up and down through the hallways at the school, excitedly proclaiming “I’m the champion, I’m the champion!”

Kaitlyn just completed her second-grade year in Patti Woodward’s class. She is the daughter of Michelle Meyers of Louisburg.
