The select choir traveled to Chicago from June 2 through June 6 to perform in a variety of venues and famous Chicago locations. Louisburg USD 416 Board of Education members approved the trip in 2008, and students raised funds and prepared for the entire school year. “This was my first big trip with a group of high school students,” said LHS Choral Director Jason Sickel, “and I was excited to take them to such a large metropolitan area with great museums and performance venues.” Twenty-two students and seven adults loaded the chartered bus at noon June 2 and arrived in Chicago at 11:30 p.m. While in the Windy City, students had the opportunity to visit and perform in Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum of Natural History. Students also participated in an educational clinic held in Alice Millar Chapel on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Other attractions visited included the Museum of Science and Industry, the Adler Planetarium, ESPN Sports Zone, Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, Sears Tower, Millennium Park and the Drury Lane Dinner Theatre. “We packed as much as we could into three full days of singing and sightseeing, and in the end I think it was an enjoyable trip for every traveler,” Sickel said. “It was a great opportunity for our students, and we had a wonderful time spontaneously bursting into song wherever we were!”
