The Louisburg baseball team had quite a season, and the storyline might be a little familiar.

The Wildcats finished in last place in the Frontier League but won three straight games in the regional tournament to advance to the state tournament. Even a strong regional tournament wasn’t enough to put the Wildcats on the all-league first team.

Louisburg was left out of the first team selections, but it still had four players that earned all-league honors. Seniors Cody Larson (first base) and Ryan Dvorak (outfield) were both given second team honors to lead Louisburg.

Freshman Canon Teague (pitcher) was named as a third-team selection, and sophomore Kody Cook was an honorable mention (shortstop).

“I felt, considering our record, we were represented fairly,” Louisburg coach Jeff Lohse said of his team’s 6-14 regular season mark. “All you can do as a coach is nominate your player(s) and it is up to the other coaches to vote them accordingly. There were some very good players in our league this year.”

Larson finished three votes shy of first team honors, as he was beat out by Gardner-Edgerton’s Justin Lane. Larson had a strong season with the bat as he was the team’s No. 3 or 4 hitter for most of the season and displayed a solid glove at first base.

As for Dvorak, he finished fifth in the voting to earn his spot in the outfield. Dvorak had a good season with the bat as he hit two home runs, including a grand slam.

“Ryan and Cody had good senior seasons for us,” Lohse said. “They were both well deserving of that honor.”

Teague led the Wildcats in wins with six and was the team’s most consistent pitcher on the season. Cook helped guide the Wildcats to the state tournament with a strong performance in the regional title game and turned several double plays at shortstop to go along with his consistent bat.

Along with Teague and Cook, the Wildcats return several players from last season’s team and Lohse is excited about what is to come.

“We should return a nice nucleus of good, young talented players next season,” he said.
