It has been four years since the benefit golf tournament was created for the Louisburg football team, and every year the turnout has been great. This year was no exception. The tournament, which was played on June 15 at Metcalf Ridge Golf Course, churned out 24 teams and raised $4,500. The money raised will be used to fund the two $1,000 scholarships given away each year. The funds also purchase equipment and other needed items for the Wildcat squad. Nearly 100 golfers took the course, and along with the 22 sponsors, made it a successful day for coach Gary Griffin’s team. Four teams were awarded prizes for their efforts. First and second places were awarded for both the A and B flights. Team Martin, which is made up of John Martin, Geno Trageser, Jerry Frederes and Tim Johnson, took first place in the A Flight, while Team Joey King finished second. The Wildcat coaches had their golf game going as well for Coaches Team 1, which consisted of Griffin, Larry Aylor, Jeff Lohse and Billy Neff, and took first in Flight B. Steve Cutshaw, Curt Knop, Ron Flaigle and Nate Flaigle of Team Cutshaw took second in the flight. The Wildcat football team kicks off the 2009 campaign when it hosts Ottawa on Sept. 4 at Wildcat Stadium.
