Every summer, when the Heartland Art Guild presents its annual exhibit of miniature art works, it proves again the old adage that good things come in small packages.

The fifth annual Miniatures Art Show will run from Monday to Aug. 1 at the Swan River Museum, 12 E. Peoria St. in Paola. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The show has grown over the years.
“It started out as just a miniature art show, but last year it branched out to international, because we had three paintings from Iran and three from England,” said art guild member Betty Bendorf.

A variety of media are represented in this juried show, and there are no restrictions of subject matter or theme.

“It can be anything — a picture of a cow, a landscape, flowers, whatever,” Bendorf said. “I think this year they’re going to have some clay figurines, too.”

The juror for this year’s show will be John Roush of Buckner, Mo., a master signature member of the Pastel Society of America and of the MidAmerica Pastel Society. As an artist, he has received national recognition for his artwork with awards in numerous exhibitions.

Award-winning entries in the show will be announced at a public reception from 1 to 3 p.m. July 11 at the Swan River Museum.
All of the art featured in the show will be for sale, and proceeds will benefit the Heartland Art Guild art scholarship fund.
