Brian Boeve, Louisburg High School’s newest administrator, has done it all: he’s taught physical education, served as principal of students in kindergarten through 12th grades, and he has accompanied teenagers as a driver’s education instructor.

But as of the 2009-10 school year, his newest challenge is serving as assistant principal at LHS. Boeve takes the place of Dave Tappan, who was promoted to principal this school year.

“I knew as a young kid that I always wanted to be a teacher,” Boeve said.

Boeve graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and psychology, and he received his master’s degree in educational administration from Fort Hays State University.

His educational career has taken him all across the state of Kansas. He served as principal of a kindergarten through 12th-grade building in Morland, Kan., as assistant principal and principal at the junior/senior high school in  Smith Center, Kan., and as principal of Phillipsburg High School, his hometown.

“I respected my teachers in junior high and high school, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps,” he said.

When the opportunity to serve as the assistant principal at Louisburg High School arose, Boeve said he jumped at the chance.

“We wanted to move to the Kansas City metro area,” Boeve said. “Just the opportunities out here are so much greater than out west.”

Tappan said Boeve’s experiences are what made him stand out from other candidates for the assistant principal position.

“During the interview process, he did an excellent job of coming in with a lot of high skills in student relations and staff relations,” Tappan said.

Boeve’s primary responsibilities will be in student discipline and handling the career clusters.

“I’m excited to have him on board,” Tappan said. “I think he’s going to fit right in.”

Boeve and his family are currently living in Overland Park with relatives until they can get settled. His wife, Tiffany, will be teaching special education in Spring Hill. They have two children, Triston, 14, who will be an eighth-grader at Louisburg Middle School, and Blaise, 5.

Boeve said he is most excited about getting to know the staff at LHS and the Louisburg community.

“I’m so excited to be here,” he said. “It’s going to be really good for me and my family.”
