Whether it be in high school or college, Lindsey Tuter has left her mark everywhere she has been. Tuter hopes to do the same next season, when she suits up as an Ottawa Brave for the first time. After two years with Johnson County Community College, Tuter signed with Ottawa for the 2009-10 season. “Lindsey is a great addition to our program,” Ottawa coach Jay Kahnt said. “At JCCC, she was on teams that went to nationals and will bring a winning attitude to our program. Lindsey will make a big impact offensively and defensively. She can run balls down in the outfield and has a great batting average. She will add speed to our team. Lindsey is also a very good student and will contribute in the classroom. We are very excited that she is part of our program.” In high school, Tuter helped Louisburg High School to state tournament appearances and was a first-team all-Frontier League selection three straight years as a pitcher. She also helped the Wildcats to two straight regional titles in 2005 and 2006. She then moved to JCCC, where she played mainly left field her sophomore season as a Cavalier and made a big impact. Tuter, a 5-foot-2 outfielder, helped Johnson County to two straight NJCAA Division II National Tournaments, placing fifth and ninth. As a sophomore, she earned first team NJCAA All-Region VI/District E and second team All-East Jayhawk Conference. She was also named NJCAA Academic All-American. Lindsey had a batting average of .419 (65 for 155) with five doubles, five triples, 13 RBIs and 49 runs scored. Her .419 batting average was second on the team and her five triples were a team high. She was successful on 27 of 30 stolen base attempts and her 27 steals led JCCC and tied for 20th in the NJCAA. During her freshman season, Lindsey played in 35 games as a pitcher and designated hitter. She batted .299 (32 for 107) with three doubles, two triples, two home runs, 28 runs scored and 14 RBIs. She was six for seven in stolen bases for the Cavaliers. She pitched in three games for a total of 13.1 innings worked and finished with a record of 1-1 with 12 strikeouts. She made two starts in the circle and pitched one complete game shutout. Tuter had a career batting average of .357 (97 for 272) with eight doubles, seven triples, two home runs, 27 RBIs and 77 runs scored. She stole 33 bases in 37 attempts (.892). Tuter finished her career at JCCC 11th all-time in triples (7) and 13th in stolen bases (33). Tuter, a Bucyrus native, joins former high school teammate, Lori Ewalt, on the Braves’ squad. Last season, Ewalt helped Ottawa to a 26-18 record, including a 12-4 mark in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Ewalt will be a senior next season.
