Local residents who feel they may be dealing with depression can get a free screening for the medical problem in Miami County on Thursday. Chris Scherberger, a therapist with the Elizabeth Layton Center, said he will be providing free screenings at the Miami County Medical Center from 8 to 10 a.m. and the Miami County Health Department from 10 a.m. to noon. Both buildings are located in Paola. Scherberger said the screenings, which are being offered in honor of National Depression Screening Day, will be free and confidential. The tests can catch warning signs of a number of different conditions, such as bi-polar and anxiety disorders, Scherberger said. Paperwork also will be available for anyone needing more long-term treatment from the Elizabeth Layton Center.
