The committee to select Miami County Conservation District conservation awards will meet at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 at the Paola Farm Service Center to tour various nominated farm projects for the Kansas Bankers Award, the buffer award and the grassland award. The winners will be recognized at the 64th annual meeting and election of the Miami County Conservation District scheduled to be held Jan. 25. In addition, two district supervisors will be elected at the annual meeting. The terms of Jim Meinig, board chairman, and Ken Nelson expire. Both are eligible for re-election, according to the nominating chairman, Harrison McCallop, vice chairman of supervisors. Anyone living in Miami County who is a qualified voter is eligible to be nominated, McCallop said. Nominations also will be received from the floor the night of the election. Other supervisors are John Vickers and Jerry Eggleston. Jenny Jasper is district manager and Mark Peters is program coordinator.
