Frederick O. Thomas, 78, Lane, died Oct. 27, 2009, at his home.

Fred was born July 6, 1931, at Grand Pass, Mo. He was the only child born to Earl and Olettia Templeton Thomas. He grew up in Grand Pass and graduated from high school there in 1948.

He served his country with the United States Air Force. He was Senior Air Policeman, stationed at Carswelll Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. His active service began May 29, 1950, and he was honorably discharged on Sept. 4, 1953.

He was married to Mary Jo Davenport at Fort Worth on Aug. 2, 1952. They became the parents of one son. Their marriage ended in divorce.

He married Sue Golden on Sept. 17, 1966, in Miami, Okla. They became the parents of three children. Their marriage ended in divorce.
He was married to Shirley Crozier Jordan on July 5, 1985, at Osawatomie. They moved to Lane in 1986 and have made their home there since that time.

He worked for the Fort Worth Police Department after being discharged from the Air Force. He retired from Atlantic Plant Maintenance, a subsidiary of General Electric, where he was a superintendent of plant maintenance.

He was a member of the Lane United Methodist Church. He also was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 58 and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. He had served several years on the Lane Fair Board.

He enjoyed fishing, airplanes and painting free-hand.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home; two sons, Kirk Monroe Thomas of Linden, Texas, and Stacy Thomas of Osawatomie; two daughters, Tomwa Thomas and Jo Pugh of Plattsburg, Mo.; one stepson, Thomas Kolosik of Kansas City, Kan.; one stepdaughter Kathryn Brakeville of Lane; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He has been cremated. A graveside service was held Nov. 2 at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie, KS 66064, (913) 755-2114.

Memorials are to the Lane Methodist Church.
