Tyler Ewy had one of those seasons for the Louisburg football team. The Wildcat junior commanded a double team on the defensive line from almost every team and Ewy made it almost impossible to get to the quarterback as an offensive tackle. Frontier League coaches saw Ewy’s production first hand and they made sure to honor him for it. Ewy earned first team honors on both the offensive and defensive lines for the all-Frontier League squad, and for good reason. Ewy helped the Wildcats rack up nearly 2,900 yards of total offense and was a force on defense. The Louisburg defensive lineman recorded a team-high 100 tackles, 11 for a loss, three forced fumbles and a team-high six sacks. “Tyler had a great year, on defense he had some very dominating performances, where he was the best player on the field and he was very consistent on offense as well,” Louisburg coach Gary Griffin said. “We are expecting some very big things from him next year.” Overall, the Wildcats were all over the Frontier League team, especially after having just two first-teamers a year ago. Louisburg netted eight first-team selections this year, including five on the defensive side of the ball. Along with Ewy, linebackers Garrett Griffin and Trevor Haeberle earned first team honors, as did defensive back Clayton Houchen. Senior Cole Davis earned first-team specialist honors. Haeberle finished with more than 80 tackles on the year, seven tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and recorded an interception. Griffin finished with ; 70 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and two blocked punts. In the secondary, Houchen made it tough on the opposing team with a team-high six interceptions and five tipped passes. As for Davis, he made special teams plays for the Wildcats and also had three interceptions from the linebacker position. “On defense, I thought we were very well represented and all of them deservedly so,” coach Griffin said. “Defense line is the hardest to distinguish, because stats don’t tell the whole story, but I was happy. Every starter on defense got at least an honorable mention, that tells a lot about what people thought about our defense.” On the offensive side of the ball, senior Ashton Dover joined Ewy as a first team selection on the offensive line, while Chris Cook was named first team kicker for the second year in a row. After his first team selection on offense, Dover earned second team honors on the defensive line, while linebacker Alex Gentges and Drew Harding (defensive back) were also named to the second team. Harding earned second team honors on offense at quarterback, while Garrett Griffin merited the same as a running back and junior Ross Dvorak joined them on the offensive line. The Wildcats also had several honorable mentions. On offense, Zach Hildreth (tight end), Ryan Roberts (running back) and offensive linemen Kody Darrington and Alex Unruh are honorable mentions. On defense, linemen Nathan Phillips and Michael Powers, along with defensive backs Jason Sattler and Cook, were also honored. “I thought we were represented well,” coach Griffin said. “You always hope to get more, but when you have Gardner, Paola and Eudora in your league also, then it is going to be tough to get everyone that you want.” All-Frontier League Football OFFENSE First team Quarterbacks: Bubba Starling, Gardner; Evan Cleveland, Eudora Running backs: Skylar Hawkins, Paola; Brett Jensen, Gardner Wide receiver: Justice Berry, Gardner Tight end: Alex Knorr, Gardner Offensive line: Tyler Ewy, Louisburg; Ashton Dover, Louisburg; Jeremiah Reece, Gardner; Cameron McLain, Gardner; Cale Karrigan, Paola Kicker: Chris Cook, Louisburg Returners : Skylar Hawkins, Paola; Dylan Burford, De Soto Second team Quarterback: Drew Harding, Louisburg Running backs: Gene Dydell, Ottawa; Garrett Griffin, Louisburg; Dylan Burford, De Soto Wide receiver: Dustin Burnett, Ottawa Tight end: Hawley Montgomery, Eudora Offensive line: Ross Dvorak, Louisburg; Lucas Powell, Gardner; Luke Wilson, Paola; Colton Lynch, Eudora; Spencer Hawkins, Ottawa Kicker: Matthew Jump, Eudora Honorable mention Quarterbacks: Corbin Goedert, Ottawa; Seth Kern, Paola Running backs: Ryan Roberts, Louisburg; Charlie Briggs, Spring Hill; Tyler Henness, Paola; Dan Mawby, Paola; Boomer Mays, Eudora; Ryan Weber, Gardner Wide receivers: Tyler Stubler, Gardner; Brian Katzfey, Eudora Tight end : Zach Hildreth, Louisburg Offensive line: Matt Schultz, Eudora; Jesse Smail, Paola; Spencer Trumbly, Paola; Caleb Molby, Eudora; Robert Retzer, Ottawa; Lyle Logan, De Soto; Daniel Davis, De Soto, Taylor Kettler, Spring Hill; Kody Darrington, Louisburg; Alex Unruh, Louisburg.
