Mr. and Mrs. Bill Massey of Paola will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 19 at Vintage Park of Paola, 601 N. East St.
Floyd (Bill) Massey of New Lancaster and Juanita Powell of Louisburg were married Dec. 22, 1939, in Paola. They then made their home in Fontana. They have lived in the Fontana, Louisburg and Paola areas all of their lives.

Bill served in the military during World War II and worked as a farmer and for Panhandle Eastern and AFL-CIO Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.

Juanita received an associate’s degree from Ursuline College of Paola, a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University and a master’s degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College of Emporia. She taught school in Paola for many years.

They are both members of the Eastern Star and Bill is also a mason.

Hosts for the event are their children, Richard and Ann Massey of Severna Park, Md., and Bill and Mary Massey of Wichita. They also have three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
