This past year was one filled with new faces in Louisburg USD 416.

The resignation of former Superintendent Rick Doll topped the list of administration vacancies in 2009, while Deborah Blancarte’s resignation from Broadmoor Elementary School and Sally Lundblad’s retirement from Louisburg High School left the district in need of two principals.

“It’s really going to happen,” Board of Education President Jimmy Allen observed in March. “We’ll be dealing with the (high school principal) situation and starting the search for the superintendent and figuring out what to do with Broadmoor, so it’s going to be an interesting time.”

Doll formally resigned March 11 at a special meeting of the school board in order to  become superintendent of Lawrence USD 497 schools. Bill Majors, assistant executive director of the Kansas Association of School Boards, was hired March 18 to help the district in its search for a new district leader. During the course of the next four weeks, the original list of 27 candidates was trimmed to three, and on April 24 the board hired former De Soto USD 232 Superintendent Sharon Zoellner.

“I’m very excited,” Zoellner said in the April 29 Louisburg Herald. “I have watched the Louisburg district from afar for the last five, six, seven years, and I’ve always been intrigued with the academic performance of the students, which is directly related to the quality of the educators providing the services in the classroom.”
Zoellner officially took over July 1.

Meanwhile, Dave Tappan, longtime assistant principal at Louisburg High School, was selected as Lundblad’s successor March 18. Brian Boeve and Chris McLean were hired May 11 to become assistant principal at LHS and principal at Broadmoor, respectively.
