The woman who was found dead along U.S. Highway 69 south of Louisburg last week has been identified as 29-year-old Angela D. Cott, and her husband and an acquaintance have been arrested in connection with her death.  The Miami County Sheriff’s Office turned the case over to the Lenexa Police Department as details surrounding the incident became more clear. Capt. Don Krone, investigations commander, said the victim’s husband, Jason W. Cott, and Alexis Leza were arrested Thursday night at the Lenexa Police Department. Officials at the Johnson County Adult Detention Center confirmed Friday that Cott has been charged with first-degree murder and Leza with aiding a person committing a felony. Krone said the Cotts’ last known address was temporary lodging in Lenexa, and it appears they were homeless, living in a number of shelters and vehicles. Leza also does not have a permanent address listed, the captain said. A driver on U.S. 69 called emergency officials about 7:50 a.m. Jan. 20 to report seeing what he or she thought was a body about 1 mile north of the highway’s 311th Street exit, Miami County Undersheriff Mark Schmidt said. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 8 a.m. and discovered Angela’s partly clothed body about 50 yards from the shoulder of the highway along a tree line. She was wearing a black T-shirt with a Backyard Burgers logo on the front left corner, and it appeared that her body had been at the site for less than 24 hours, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Jan. 20. Sheriff’s officials were aided by officers from the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit. A suspected cause of death has not been released, pending results of an autopsy.
