For many of the Louisburg community’s youngest ladies, the annual Father-Daughter Dance at Rockville Elementary School is the subject of a great deal of anticipation.
And why not? Daughters get to spend quality time with their dads, dressed to the nines for an evening of dining and dancing with friends. Even among adults, such special evenings can be few and far between.

With a young daughter of her own, Kristy Yeager has seen the excitement it creates firsthand. So when the joint Parent Teacher Organization of Broadmoor and Rockville Elementary Schools asked her to chair the 2010 dance, she happily agreed, and implemented a few changes along the way.

Not every girl envisions herself as a princess, Yeager explained. In an attempt to open the evening up to styles of all kinds, she decided to bring a little bit of Hollywood to the proceedings.

“This year it’s a red-carpet thing,” she said. “They can really come in as stars and get dressed up to walk the red carpet. I wanted to make it a theme where little girls who aren’t real ‘princessy’ can either be a rock star or be a princess. I figured this will be fun for everybody.”

A professional photographer will be on hand to take pictures, and other family members are asked to get in on the action by taking photos of their own — acting as a stand-in for Hollywood’s ever-present paparazzi. This year, young ladies from Circle Grove — and their fathers, of course, have been invited to join in the fun as well.

The dance acts as a fund-raiser for the Broadmoor-Rockville PTO, Yeager explained, and at a cost of $5 per couple, helps to fund the organization’s activities throughout the year.

However, the night serves another purpose; perhaps it’s the most important element of all. With families growing ever more busy with each passing year, the opportunity for dads to spend a few moments with their daughters is too precious to pass up.

The Father-Daughter Dance represents just such a chance, Yeager said.

“I hope this is going to be such a special moment for the daughter and dad together,” she said. “I hope it’s a memory they’ll always cherish.”

The fun begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rockville Elementary School and runs until 8:30 p.m., featuring karaoke, dancing and refreshments. Admission is $5 per couple.
