Another week and two more victories for the Louisburg seventh-grade boys’ basketball team.

The Wildcats rolled to a 40-19 victory against Eudora during Thurday’s home game and were able to hold off a pesky Baldwin team on Jan. 25 with a 33-29 victory.
Against Eudora, the Wildcats took control from the start. Connor McMullen led Louisburg with 11 points, while Corbin Wertz finished with nine points.

Dylan Ming, Matthew Sappington, Lucas Smith, Mesa Ribordy and Lucas Turner each added four points in the victory.

“We started slow, but got into our rhythm later in the first quarter and played a good game,” Louisburg coach John Reece said. “Our defense was outstanding in the second half.”

The defense came up big against Baldwin, as well. Louisburg used a 2-3 zone to frustrate the Baldwin offense and it forced several turnovers.

McMullen led the Louisburg scorers with 13 points and Wertz added 10. Turner finished with four points, while Brady Lambeth, Nathan Moore and Ming each scored two points.
“We did a good job of shutting down their post play in our zone defense,” Reece said. “We showed poise on offense and did a good job of transitioning down the floor.”
The junior varsity team also picked up two victories last week. The Wildcats started with a Jan. 25 win over Baldwin, 30-26, and ended it with a 26-21 overtime victory over Eudora on Thursday.

Against Baldwin, Ming led Louisburg with seven points, while Mitchell Caldwell and Brenton Wrigley scored five points each. Caldwell led Louisburg with eight points against Eudora and the team converted five of six free throws in overtime to seal the win.
