Dear Editor: I am not a person who usually draws attention to myself or writes to the paper, but there is something I just don’t understand. It’s the city of Louisburg’s utilities. I called the city about my utility bill (gas, water, sewer, etc.) — which, by the way, wasn’t an overly large bill — to ask if I could pay half of my balance by the end of the month and then get caught up the next month. I was informed that I could go to any of the churches in town, and they could pay up to $150 of my utility bill. I just don’t understand how a utility company cannot work with a customer on his or her bill. All I wanted to do was pay half now and then get caught up the next month. I am not looking for assistance, just a little understanding in this struggling economy. With Louisburg being a “small community” and wanting people to move to this “small community” and buy local to support their “small community,” why can’t the city of Louisburg work with their local customers and give a person a break? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Sharen Flander Louisburg
