Had it not been for rival Paola, the Louisburg 13-15 all-star baseball team might have been competing for a state title this week in Ulysses. Instead, the Wildcats had to settle for second place, after two losses to Paola on July 10 and 11, one of which was a 10-7 loss in the championship game in Paola. They were tough losses to swallow, but in the end, the Louisburg players were proud of what they accomplished. Louisburg finished the tournament with a 2-2 record with wins over West Franklin and Ottawa and played well in all four games. The Wildcats opened the tournament July 9 in Paola against Ottawa and had no problems a 12-4 victory. Clark Gregory was awarded MVP honors for Louisburg and Bret Bullock earned the WOW award. The victory set up the first meeting with Paola and Louisburg lost the high-scoring affair, 12-10. The Wildcats got big hits up and down the lineup, but Jake Masterson was big for Louisburg and was awarded MVP honors for his effort. Bryant Doerfler garnered the WOW award for his play in the field. Louisburg knocked off a West Franklin team 8-5 the following day, the same team which fell by just one run to the eventual champion, Paola. Masterson won his second MVP award in two games and Gregory picked up the WOW award. In the championship contest, the Louisburg-Paola rivalry produced another offensive outburst with 17 runs, but the Wildcats fell short. After the game, Gregory was his second MVP award and Masterson picked up the WOW honor. Members of the Louisburg team are Greyson Honsinger, Bennett Fisher, Jake Elbrader, Tra Greene, Jeremiah Ming, Masterson, Gregory, Doerfler, Frank Totta, Bullock, Zach Dalryple and Riley McKinley. The team was coached by Shawn McKinley and Bob Elbrader.
