Jesse,
Great article!
I, too, really like the Come And Take It flag, especially the one with the AR-15/M-16 rifle!
By the way, I think the first one was made in 1994, not in the 1980s. There is an erroneous citation on Wikipedia regarding that, but after contacting the author of that citation, it turns out that the one made in the 1980s was a Come And Take It flag with an H&K.
Maybe you'd like to read a write-up of the history that I did? http://www.comeandtakeit.com/txhist.html - David Treibs

I also love the "Come and Take It" flag for what it says about our freedom-loving ancestors in Texas. But you didn't give us the follow through on "Molon Labe", the famous Greek quote from which the Texans took their inspiration.

According to Herodotus, when the Persian King Xerxes told King Leonidas for the Spartans to surrender and give up their arms, Leonidas replied Molon Labe or Come and take them.

This is a battle cry that has stirred the hearts of patriots in tough situations through the ages and ties our Texas heroes at Gonzalez and the Alamo with the Spartans who also gave up their lives to protect their freedom desptie impossible odds. - a guest
