Mr. and Mrs. John Dakin will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a renewal of their wedding vows and a reception following at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Drexel, Mo., United Methodist Church, 304 E. Walnut St.

John Dakin and Vera Stockebrand were married Dec. 18, 1949, in Yates Center, Kan. They made their home in the Drexel area.

Mr. Dakin is a farmer and is still going strong. Mrs. Dakin is retired from public health service.

Their children are hosting the anniversary celebration. They are Cee and John Kueser of Louisburg, Karl and Darla Dakin of Denver, Colo., Monica and David Higgins of Naples, Fla., Roy and Susan Dakin of Mobile, Ala., and Sam Dakin of Louisburg. They also have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Massey of Paola will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 19 at Vintage Park of Paola, 601 N. East St.
Floyd (Bill) Massey of New Lancaster and Juanita Powell of Louisburg were married Dec. 22, 1939, in Paola. They then made their home in Fontana. They have lived in the Fontana, Louisburg and Paola areas all of their lives.

Bill served in the military during World War II and worked as a farmer and for Panhandle Eastern and AFL-CIO Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.

Juanita received an associate’s degree from Ursuline College of Paola, a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University and a master’s degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College of Emporia. She taught school in Paola for many years.

Howard and Ila Gillogly of rural Louisburg will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Drexel First Baptist Church, 105 S. Third Street.

Howard Gillogly and the former Ila Homrighausen were united in marriage Dec. 20, 1969, at the Paola Presbyterian Church. They have spent their married years on a farm in rural Miami County near Drexel, where they farmed and raised their family.

Howard has been engaged in farming all of his life and Ila is a retired school teacher. They have three daughters and six grandchildren. Until recently, the couple was blessed to still have two of their parents, both of whom turned 100 this year,to share in their lives. Mr. Gillogly’s father, Harold Rex Gillogly, died Dec. 5.

Mr. and Mrs. James Haley of Osawatomie will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday.

Glenadyne Ginn of Fairport, Mo., and James Haley of Weatherby, Mo., were married Nov. 19, 1949, at St. Joseph, Mo.
The Haleys farmed in Missouri until they moved to the Paola area in 1955.

James worked for Delco Battery in Olathe, retiring in 1987. He enjoys working with wood, but his favorite pastime was horses. He helped to start the Miami County 4-H Horse Club.

Glenadyne liked to be involved in the community and served as leader in the local and county 4-H program. She loved to sew for their family and others before losing some of her eyesight due to diabetes. Sending cards for birthdays and anniversaries to her family is a joy as she never wants to miss any one.

Sixty years ago, Russell J. Davey and Audrey A. Dugger exchanged wedding vows at the Holiday Baptist Church in Holiday, Kan. After their Oct. 15, 1949, wedding, the couple made their home in Boon, Iowa.

Mr. Davey is retired after 30 years at Delco in Olathe. He also provided tree and stump removal service for Olathe and the surrounding area.

Mrs. Davey was a school bus driver/supervisor in Olathe for 13 years. The kids loved it when they discovered Mrs. Davey was their bus driver.

The couple lived in Olathe for 55 years, and they have lived in Spring Hill for the last three years.
