Larissa: Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Akhilios vandalized with obscenities

Clergy and faithful who went to the church of Saint Achilleos, the patron saint of Larissa, for divine worship on Sunday were confronted with an image of vandalism in the early hours of the morning. Before reading the synodal circular on the marriage bill, unidentified spray-painters caused considerable damage to the temple's propylaea.

As mentioned therein orthodoxia.info, unknown vandals wrote slogans against faith and country and personally against Metropolitan Hieronymos on the floor and walls of the Propylaea. “Greece must die, we live in hell in family, religion and nation,” they wrote in one place, while in another they noted ironically, “No to violence yes to lesbianism.”

In front of the main entrance, they wrote obscenities against the Metropolitan of Larissa, while they mocked the face of the Virgin Mary.

“We are not afraid,” was the response of the Diocese of Larissa. “Strong and progressive arguments… God bless them. We are not afraid” was the first reaction of the metropolis.

Metropolitan Hieronymos of Larissa was one of the members of the hierarchy to react strongly to the government initiative, and called on the Church not to stop legalizing the new form of marriage.

The police have been informed about the incident and investigations are underway to identify the culprits.
